Camogie

Yes

Camogie was first established in Moneyglass in the 1940's after some girls namely Shiela Kelly became interested in the sport at school in St Louis, Ballymena. By all accounts this team became an accomplished one and played most of their matches in the Demense. The team reached the Antrim Senior Championship final on several occasions but unfortunately never won and folded some 10 year after their creation.

Camogie was reintroduced into St Ergnats in the mid-sixties after tireless work by Frank Hughes and his daughter Margaret. This team reached the Antrim Junior Championship in 1968; the final was played in Waterfoot against Treacy's of Belfast where St Ergnats emerged the winners by 3-01 to 2-01. This win sparked an interest in the sport and an influx of players joined, with some of the new players going on to represent their County. Unfortunately the game of camogie suffered again and the team folded in 1987.

Like hurling Camogie was introduced back into the club 4 years ago in 2011 on a trial basis. The Camogie runs alongside the hurling on a Saturday morning for preschool age to U14. Both the U12 and U14 teams play in regular league fixtures.
