Managers/Coaches/Volunteers

St Ergnat’s G.A.C Moneyglass

  • Ensure the safety of all players with proper levels of supervision, pre-planning of coaching sessions , using safe methods at all times.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person and treat each one equally regardless of age, gender or ability.
  • Be positive during coaching sessions so that participants always leave with a sense of achievement and an increased level of self esteem.
  • Not allow any rough or dangerous play, bullying or the use of bad language or inappropriate behaviour.
  • Dont’t shout at or lecture players or reprimand/ridicule them when they make a mistake (young people learn best through trial and error, they should not be afraid to risk error to learn)
  • Don’t equate losing with failure and do not develop a preoccupation with medals and trophies ( the level of improvement by young players is the best indicator of coaching effectiveness)
  • Be a role model (disciplined/committed/timekeeping). Remember young people learn by example.
  • Refrain from smoking and consumption of alcohol during club activities or coaching sessions.
  • Have access to a telephone for immediate contact to emergency services if required.
  • Report accidents or incidents of alleged abuse to the designated person.
  • Not abuse members physically, emotionally or sexually.
  • Protect themselves from false accusations by (a) not spending excessive amounts of time alone with players away from others, (b) avoid taking young people alone on a car journey however short.
  • Encourage parents/guardians to play an active role in organising activities and become involved in their club.
